The camp’s historical root system is closely linked to the presence and legacy of legendary swing dancer Frank Manning. The Lindy Hop Shop was established already in the early 1990s, at the time offering a most limited assortment. The shop business in Herräng of today has very few similarities with the early days, and has developed into a kind of small retro store focusing on music, dance, clothes and shoes. The Lindy Hop, named after aviator Charles Lindbergh and his solo flight from New York to Paris in 1927, is a rhythmical and groovy couple dance created to big band music in the Harlem ballrooms around the time of the depression.
